Hall Road Rangers are through to the 2nd Round of the FA Vase after they won 2-1 against Ashington at Woodhorn Lane yesterday afternoon.

It was a very gritty and determined performance from Rangers who ultimately deserved the victory.

Hall Road started the first half the better of the two sides and created a handful of opportunities.

Their first goal of the game came in the 8th minute when Fraser Hansen cut inside and hit a shot that went through the goalkeeper’s hands and trickled into the Ashington net.

Ashington picked up their game from then on and started to create chances of their own as they responded well.

They grabbed an equaliser in the 16th minute after Hall Road failed to clear a cross into their box and Michael Chilton tapped home.

The hosts subsequently nearly took the lead after a good counter attacking move but the subsequent shot went wide of the Hall Road goal.

Rangers regained the lead in the 35th minute after Josh Batty pounded on a rebound to tap in at close range.

It could have got even better for Hall Road just before half time but Chris Spinks saw his well hit free kick agonisingly hit the post.

The second half began just like the first half ended with Hall Road in relative control of the game.

Josh Batty could have got his second goal of the game but he saw his shot saved after he was sent clean through.

Ashington began to have more of the ball but couldn’t find the goal that would have got them back on level terms.

Hall Road’s defence held firm throughout all of the pressure it was put under and ensured that the visitors left Woodhorn Lane with the win.

Hall Road will find out who they will face in the 2nd Round of the FA Vase on Monday and another run in this competition is possible and it will be fascinating to see how far Rangers can go this season.
