Hall Road Rangers suffered a 0-1 home defeat against South Cave United at Haworth Park on Saturday.
In the fifth minute, Rangers had a half chance as Luke Bullement fired an effort over the bar. Bullement had another opportunity three minutes later when he had a shot saved. Meanwhile, South Cave put an effort wide in the 23rd minute.
Rangers continued to threaten for the remainder of the half, but they didn’t manage to get themselves in front. Kian Salter almost got himself on the scoresheet in the 44th minute as his shot hit the post.
Salter went close again in the early stages of the second half with an effort that hit the crossbar. In the 52nd minute, Tom Oliver saw his shot saved.
However, the visitors broke the deadlock and took the lead in the 64th minute as they converted a penalty. South Cave saw the game out effectively and took all three points.
Hall Road Rangers: Withill, Waud (Iversen 62’), Murray, J. Hall, Chaffer, Andrew (C), R. Hall, Bullement, Harrison (Shepard 71’), Salter (Miller 79’), Oliver.
Sub Not Used: Emmerson, Loughton.
Speaking after the game, Rangers first team head coach Matt Gray said:
“Obviously, a disappointing result. We don’t want to be getting beat at home, but I wasn’t disappointed with the performance.
In previous weeks and some previous poor results we’ve had, we’ve been really disappointed with the performances and we’ve lost games on not meeting our minimum standards and the non negotiables that we set. I didn’t think that was the case today. I thought the lads worked really hard and tried to do what was asked of them.
We were just lacking in quality today. We lost the ball a lot and didn’t create much and neither did South Cave. I thought the full game lacked a lot of quality and it looked like it was going to peter out into 0-0.
We conceded quite a poor goal to concede the penalty. We just lacked that quality today to really open them up at any point.
On another day, we could have taken the two or three chances that we did have and we could be taking about a different result. There are some positives to take and build on in the week leading up to next week’s game.”
